Yoga is not just doing asanas (poses). Yoga is a lifestyle.
Centuries ago, an Indian sage Patanjali wrote a scripture called the ‘Yoga Sutras’, which means ‘stitches of union’. This scripture systemises a range of practices for stimulating the natural capabilities within every human beings nervous system for purification and opening, leading to enlightenment.
Here at Santosha Spirit Healing, we create Hatha Yoga sequences to enhance the healing process when the body is out of balance, as well as practice for optimal wellbeing and conscious flow.
For example if a client is struggling with anxiety, we would create a Yoga asana sequence to relax the parasympathetic nervous system, including pranayama, mantra, meditation and yoga nidra.
Mantra clears the habitual negative thought patterns that arise from an unsteady mind, and then allows us to connect with universal consciousness. Man means ‘mind" and tra means ‘to free’.
The vibrations generates through chanting are fundamental instruments for altering the psyche. Mantra is defined as a sound or series of sounds having physical, psychic or spiritual potency when recited in a certain manner. A protective energy field forms around those chanting and the surrounding area, creating a more purified environment.
Pranayama is an ancient yogic science of controlling prana.
Since the most visible manifestation of prana is breathing, pranayama is the term used for a variety of breathing practices.
Prana is our life force. It is not just our physical energy but also our more subtle, mental or intellectual energy, as well as spiritual and sexual energy.
The stronger this life force is in us, the better we look and feel. It brings clarity fo the mind and emotional balance. Prana also supports the physiology of the body.
Yoga Nidra is a systematic method of inducing complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation.
The term Yoga Nidra is derived from two Sanskrit words, Yoga meaning ‘union’ or one-pointed awareness, and Nidra, which means ‘sleep’.
The physical body is completely at rest, the mind is calm and peaceful, but the awareness/consciousness remains active. It is functioning at a deeper level of awareness.
In Yoga Nidra the state of realisation is reached by turning inwards, away from outer experiences - pratyahara (the withdrawal of the senses).(Sudevi Sundari)
Here at Santosha Spirit Healing, we create unique daily practices for clients to allow for purification and healing to take place on the deepest level.

Meditation is a practice that makes it possible to cultivate and develop certain basic positive human qualities.
The words that are translated into English as meditation are 'bhavana' from Sanskrit, which means ‘to cultivate’ and 'god' from Tibetan, which means ‘to become familiar with’.
So, meditation is a matter of familiarising ourselves with a clear and accurate way of seeing things and of cultivating the good qualities that remain dormant inside until we make the effort to bring them out.
Connecting ourselves back to the essence of who we truly are, our infinite spiritual essence.
For me, it’s MiNd MeDiciNe.
My meditation practice began when I was 27 years old and struggled with anxiety and deep depression. The real significance of meditation is the inner transformation through training the mind.
Stillness and silence are the keywords that come up when I speak of meditation.
It is not complicated and you do not need to be able to sit in the lotus pose to do it.
Even just sitting for 20 minutes a day consistently over a period six weeks can be extremely beneficial and transformative. Studies have illustrated benefits, including a decrease in anxiety, in vulnerability to pain and in the tendency towards depression and anger, as well as strengthening your immune function and an increase in general wellbeing. (Matthieu Ricard, The Art of Meditation 2008)
Personally, Meditation has permanently altered the way my brain functions. From thoughts of self hatred and negativity patterns to presence and stillness.
Here, at Santosha Spirit Healing, we guide our clients to initially devote just 20 minutes a day to allow their practice to gradually gain substance and stability. We are also offering mantra, Yoga Nidra, mudras and pranayama if desired.
At Santosha Spirit Healing, we offer one on one guidance for $15 per session lasting half an hour, and group meditation classes which also go for half an hour for $10 donation.
